How to use these calculators

Every calculator here does one job: it shows you the arithmetic behind a decision you are already thinking about. Move a slider and the result, the chart and the supporting figures update immediately, so you can see how sensitive an outcome is to each input rather than reading a single number and taking it as fact.

Every formula is shown

Most online calculators are a black box. You enter numbers, a figure appears, and there is no way to check it. On each page here the formula sits beside the tool, along with a worked example using round numbers you can follow by hand. If our result and your own arithmetic disagree, you can see exactly where.

What a calculator cannot tell you

A projection is arithmetic, not a forecast. A SIP calculator showing a figure after twenty years assumes a constant rate of return, which no real market delivers. Returns arrive unevenly, and the same average can produce very different outcomes depending on the order in which good and bad years fall. Treat every projected figure as one scenario among many, and run the same calculation at a lower rate to see how much the plan depends on optimism.

About the tax and charge figures

The brokerage and capital gains calculators use published statutory rates — securities transaction tax, exchange transaction charges, stamp duty, GST and the current capital gains slabs. These change with each budget and with exchange circulars. Each page states the rates it is using and when they were last checked. Verify against your broker contract note or the Income Tax Department before relying on a total.

No recommendations, ever

No calculator on this site names a security, suggests what to buy or sell, or implies an outcome. The risk-reward tool works out the arithmetic of a position you have already decided to consider; it does not tell you whether to take it. We are not a SEBI-registered Investment Adviser or Research Analyst, and nothing here is personalised advice.
